For my Genius Hour I have connected with my personal passion of working towards living a healthy lifestyle through diet, exercise, and mental health as a spring board for my project. The question I will be addressing for my Genius Hour focuses in on the nutrition component of healthy living, specifically: How can you live a healthy lifestyle nutritionally while living as a student?
I think this is such a relevant question not only in my own life, but for all students as well. Especially when you reach the post-secondary part of your educational career. As students we are so busy! Between the hours we spend in class, outside of class studying and working on assignments, attending meetings, professional development, working part-time jobs, trying to keep in touch with our friends and families, and trying to be physically active for those that are brave enough to add that to their workload. Amidst all this craziness and a demanding schedule, nutrition often gets put on the back burner as we settle for easy processed foods, junk food, or no food at all! It is so important to fuel our bodies well and properly so that we can function at our best academically, socially, mentally, and physically! Thus, for my Genius Hour I will be going on a journey to discover the best tips, tricks and methods to staying on top of my nutrition while living as a student.
I think that it is important that I explicitly lay out my intentions for this Genius Hour project. I am not intending to set out to have the most healthy, clean diet you could possibly eat. I don’t think it’s a realistic goal for me and for a lot of post-secondary students. What I am intending to do, however, is figure out ways to set yourself up for success in eating enough healthy, natural food while facing the typical challenges of a student that tends to impede on the ability to do this. I intend to do this through documenting my own experiences as I try to live this lifestyle, as well as posting all of the tips and tricks I can find through trial and error and research that I believe can help you be successful in doing these things!
Wish me good luck!!!
