Hello
Readers!
I just want to check in
for a quick reflection of the last week I’ve had while working on my Genius Hour!
Things have been going
pretty well so far. This is something that I have essentially been working on
for a while before I made it a formal mission of mine through this project. In
considering this, I have essentially had a good head start on this project!
Thus I haven’t been going through the struggles that most people will when
first starting to make a radical diet change. I do think back to when I first
consciously made the decision to start eating more properly though, and it
wasn’t a smooth ride to getting where I am now.
I am a self-professed
chocoholic! I admit it! Keep your chips and candy to yourself, but pass me the
chocolate. I blame my father for my intense sweet tooth, but I blame myself for
letting it snowball into a personal problem. It’s almost like an addiction: you
crave it, and you satisfy your craving, and return all you get are more
frequent and intense cravings. The more you obey these cravings, the more you
end up eating. When I started to take my physical heath more seriously and
started to work out frequently, I realized that I needed to seriously tackle my
diet. One of the most immediate and important changes I needed to make was my
intake of sugar, primarily coming from chocolate!
It took me a long time to
get to where I am now, but it’s amazing how you get yourself away from the
cravings by simply ignoring the urge as much as you can. I would actively
ignore my cravings and either allow them to pass, or have a better snack as an
alternative. One of my favorites is bananas and apples with peanut butter!
Today I am nowhere near perfect, but I have taken control over my chocolate
habits and I am proud to say I rarely it anymore! Changes can happen, if you
will yourself, take your time, and plan for it!
